My Hiking Essentials

Hiking Essentials

I’m going to be going on a hike with my brother, our cousins, & a few friends this weekend. I made a guide of my hiking essentials. Keep in mind that I don’t hike as often as I’d like to. So any tips would really help! We’re going to Alamere Falls because my brother has been raving to go there for months now. I told him I want to go to Yosemite & he said he wants to do that too, but we would really have to plan a weekend for that in advance. Hopefully we can do that this summer with our cousins.

MY HIKING ESSENTIALS:

  • Re-usable water bottle: I have about 4 of these, but get this…I don’t even drink water. HAHA. I always buy them with the intent that I’ll have to make use of them, but it never happens. I really should start drinking water because my body really needs it.
  • Sports bra (for females): Definitely want to dress comfortable during a long hike. Especially if you’re going to sweat!
  • Loose-fit tank top: You don’t want to wear heavy articles of clothing during a long hike. I’ve felt that heavy articles of clothing weighs me down. I try not to bring a jacket with me because somewhere towards the middle of the hike, I start to feel hot & have to carry my jacket the rest of the way. I try to carry as little as possible. Again…you want to be comfortable!
  • Dri-fit activewear pants: I know NIKE is somewhat expensive, but their dri-fit pants are so worth it. It’s super comfortable & light.
  • Comfortable shoes: Comfortable shoes are a DEFINITE must. I think I wore my Nike Roshe Runs during a long hike/walk one time & my feet hurt a bit after. Don’t get me wrong. Those shoes are light & comfortable, but not something to do strenuous work in. I prefer my Nike Flyknits even though they’re running shoes, they’re better than the Roshes.
  • Comfortable backpack: something lightweight to carry some of your things. When I’m exploring, I usually use this backpack I bought from Wet Seal because I’m not doing any strenuous work. For hikes I prefer to use a better, more fitting backpack that’s great on my shoulders.
  • Sunscreen: apply before hike! who wants a weird tan or the risk of getting sunburn?
  • ipod: a good playlist of music that pumps you up always helps for a long hike!
  • Granola bar/sandwich: Small snacks for breaks during the hike. You want to make sure you have some energy & you also want to carry light snacks.
  • DSLR: If you’re like me who likes to take pictures with something other than a smartphone, I would bring my DSLR. Along with an extra battery pack.
  • Small first-aid kit: I have yet to be in a hiking situation that requires little medical assistance, but better to be safe than sorry right?

Prom Season

Prom Season

My niece texted me a while back about Prom dress shopping & then followed up with my today about what dress she bought. I’m not exaggerating, but I love the dress she got. It wasn’t too expensive & it suits her so well. I wanted to tear up after she showed me her dress.
I got real nostalgic after talking to her about her plans for Prom. I made this small collage because I actually miss Prom dress shopping.
For both of my proms (Junior & Senior), I wore a long dress with an open back. I always preferred a long dress because I felt like it was more elegant & classy. & I loved having the open back because it added a sort of spice to the dresses.
My Junior Prom is easily one of the best times I’ve ever had. It was held at the Fairmont Hotel & one of our friends got a hotel room so we all got ready, hungout, took photos, etc. before heading down to the ballroom for Prom.
My dress was $25 or less, my cousin did makeup & hair (which stayed throughout the entire night), & I didn’t have a date so I went with a bunch of friends who didn’t have dates either & it was literally just one of the best times ever (aside from almost getting kicked out because my friend let me sit on his shoulders & one member of the staff told us not to do that anymore. LOL). My friend & I actually did that again for Winterball our senior year & a photo of me on his shoulders ended up being blown up on one of the yearbook pages. AHAHAHHAHAHA.
If I could relive that entire night all over again, I would in a heartbeat. I had so much fun with my friends.

I hope that in a couple of years I can still fit into my dress. It still fits now! But it’s starting to get a little tight around the abdomen area );

Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Mother's Day Gift Guide

Mother’s Day is coming up this weekend! I can’t believe we’re almost half-way through the year. I feel like this year & last year went by too fast.
I apologize for the lack of updates. I do only plan to update this blog whenever I have something going on, but lately I’ve just been busy. It’s kind of been an emotional week for me & I hope it will pass soon.
If your mom is anything like my mom who likes nice things, I put this little gift idea/guide together.

My mom also always appreciates the thought that counts & knows that buying nice things isn’t everything. A card with your own thoughts in writing, a nice bouquet of flowers, a collage of family photos, cleaning the house, washing the dishes, or cooking a meal are things that they would also love & appreciate. If not, more.
You definitely do not have to buy anything crazy or out of your budget to show your mom appreciation. Please keep in mind that you, being on this earth is always going to suffice. We should also show love to mom’s everyday, not just this particular occasion(:

THE LIST!

  • Jewelry is always a nice gift. I wouldn’t get my mom that particular necklace only because I know she likes her jewelry simple or shows little statement.
  • A nice pair of sandals would be great because of the Spring/Summer season. & if she’s going anywhere nice for vacation this summer, a pair of sandals could definitely be of use. Surely, I get my addiction for buying shoes from my mom ^_^
  • My mom wears watches, but they’re usually small & simple however; large watches have been in style for a while now so that would also be a nice gift to get.
  • What mom doesn’t love a nice purse? I can’t afford any expensive purse right now, but I do know that my mom loves Kate Spade. Hopefully I’ll be able to get her something that nice someday.
  • My sister bought my mom I think it was a stainless steel pot/pan a while back & my mom loved it. My mom cooks a lot (always & forever amazing top notch meals) so I can see why she would appreciate any kitchen essentials.
  • A tablet is a great gift for anyone actually. It’s definitely a great use when traveling or if your mom is always on-the-go & needs a planner/organizer. I’m not going to get into details on what other things a tablet can do because I’m sure you get the gist, but it’s definitely a great use.
If you’re on a budget like me, splitting the cost of an item between siblings always helps. For some reason, my siblings & I never do that. LOL. We’ve always given our mom individual gifts & she appreciates anything we get her whether it’s expensive, inexpensive, or intangible.

I don’t have any plans set for Mother’s Day like I thought, but my family always plans things last minute so we’ll see what I have in store for this weekend.

I hope you all have a great Mother’s Day or weekend in general ^_^
