Holiday Gift Wrapping

This year I decided to go with a ‘simple’ look to gift wrapping. I used brown paper, twine, attached a star ornament & Christmas tree gift tag to the twine, attached a photo with a clothespin to the twine, & tied it in a bow!

Jeremiah & I also spent the past couple of nights watching a few of our favorite holiday movies.
Our favorite holiday movies (in no particular order):
  • Home Alone
  • Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
  • Jingle All the Way
  • Serendipity
  • If I Stay
  • Two Night Stand
  • The Vow
  • The Night Before
  • The Family Stone
  • The Santa Clause
  • Die Hard
  • A Charlie Brown Christmas
  • Elf
  • This Christmas
  • Jack Frost
  • Four Christmases
  • The Holiday
  • Christmas Cupid
  • Hook
  • The Dark Knight Rises
  • Harry Potter (all)
What are some of your favorite holiday movies?

Family Giving Tree’s Holiday Wish Drive

I just got my hardest final out of the way today, so I feel extremely relieved! A ton of things have been going on this week, which is why I’ve rarely been able to update. I’ll be posting more frequently now that I feel a little less stressed.

On Saturday, Jeremiah & I did some Christmas shopping & got our Holiday Wish Drive’s gifts. The company that my mom works for participated in the Family Giving Tree (a non-profit organization), so she asked me if I wanted to participate too since Jeremiah & I missed out on Operation Christmas Child.

If you want to give back to the community or help those that are less fortunate this holiday season, check my blog post here for more information.

The Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide 2016

The holiday season is definitely kicking in & you know what that means, right? It’s that time of the year when everyone tries to get their holiday shopping done before Christmas!

I decided to make an Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide for anyone that’s having trouble trying to find a gift whether it’s personal, for Secret Santa, or for White Elephant. I got my ideas from family members, friends, did research, & even included my own ideas to put these gift guides together. Thank you to those that provided input in order for me to put these gift guides together.
I hope that in some way these gift guides help you this holiday season!

These gift guides were originally targeted as “For Him” & “For Her”, but I didn’t realize until after I did the Kid’s Gift Guide that I wanted to help break society’s barrier that only certain items are targeted for females or males. After I did the Kid’s Gift Guide, I remembered something that I realized last year when I was out shopping for my Operation Christmas Child. I was going through the legos aisle & realized that the lego sets weren’t targeted towards a specific gender. I think that’s really important to keep in mind. I don’t have kids, but when that time comes, I think it’s important for my future children to learn that you can like whatever you want & that you don’t have to follow society’s standards that are placed on you. I want my future children to be able to like what they want & that what they like isn’t “just for boys” or “just for girls”. I want my future children to be confident & comfortable with themselves. & I just wanted to make note of that—that the general idea is that any of these gifts could be for any gender.

spin straw into marble

Okay, so the title of this post is a little misleading. I can’t actually spin straw into marble, but I can turn a plain table into what looks like marble!

I’ve thought about doing this for a while. I don’t have an actual desk in my room because I simply don’t have the space for one, but I do have a small table that I like to do work on. I wanted to change the plain, black table into something else that kind of goes with the color in my room. The only thing that looks off about my room right now is my bookcase, but I can’t seem to let it go or paint over it since my parents bought it for me when I was in the 7th grade.

After:
I did it all in 45 minutes! I was so excited about it, I didn’t think about doing a step-by-step tutorial. Plus, I didn’t think about it because I was too focused on doing it right & didn’t want to make any mistakes. I do have another project that I plan on doing this weekend. If I do get around to it, I’ll try to take photos (:

Pumpkin Carving 2016

Jeremiah & I finally carved our pumpkins last night! I feel like I’ve been talking about pumpkins for over a month already!

Here’s a collage of all of our pumpkins carvings over the years. We did the Batman symbol together because it was my first time carving a pumpkin ever, so he helped me out with it. I did “Student Loans”, the Deathly Hallows symbol from Harry Potter, & the Targaryen 3-headed dragon sigil from Game of Thrones. He did Iron Man, Captain America’s shield, & R2-D2.

This year, I was going to do something Disney, but I changed my mind a couple of days ago & went with a Stranger Things theme.

I hand drew “The Upside Down” in the Stranger Things title font & it looked great on the pumpkin, but it was a struggle trying to carve it ): It’s okay because mistakes lead to lessons.
Jeremiah decided to go down the petty route & carve “GSW blew 3-1 lead” (eye roll emoji x 1000). LOL.

I can’t believe October + Halloween, my favorite month & “holiday” is almost over! Jeremiah & I are going to actually do something this year. We didn’t do much the past 2 years since we were always caught up with work or other things. Plus, we really wanted to celebrate all of our recent blessings. Do you guys have any plans for Halloween weekend?

DIY distressed t-shirt

I didn’t do a step-by-step tutorial for this because it was around 1 AM when I was doing this & too tired to even function.
Note: the tank top shown under the t-shirt was not worn during the concert

The t-shirt was originally adult sized & I customized it into a tank top.
  1. I folded the t-shirt in half & cut the sleeves off
  2. While the t-shirt is still folded, I cut off a large portion of the bottom to match the length of my waist
  3. While the t-shirt is still folded, I cut a large portion off of the neck line
  4. I unfolded the t-shirt & cut random large & small holes around the front of the t-shirt
  5. While the t-shirt is still unfolded, I cut random large & small holes on the back of the t-shirt
  6. Using a nile filer, I used the rough side on the t-shirt holes to create a natural distressed look
  7. After distressing the t-shirt holes, I used the nail filer along the edges of the t-shirt to create a natural distressed look

I definitely need to work on these tutorial posts. Is it better for me to do a step-by-step tutorial in photos or a video? Is that something you would be interested in? Please leave feedback below!
