The Spirit of Giving

I’d like to work harder at bringing awareness to some organizations/programs that I believe in. As a human being, I feel that it’s imperative to bring awareness, help others, & fight for positive change in any way that I can. I don’t have a large audience, but I’d like to somehow reach out to what little I do have. The listed few are non-profit organizations/programs that family, friends, members of the Lion of Judah Foursquare Church, & myself have participated in or made me aware of. I believe that it is of the utmost importance to help those in need.

  • Flint Water Fund
    • A dedicated fund established by the United Way of Genesee County.
    • By now, you all have heard of the Flint water crisis. This tragedy has exposed between 6,000 & 12,000 children to lead-contaminated water. People still do not have access to clean, usable water. The Flint Water Fund is dedicated to delivering filters, bottled water, emergency support services, & prevention efforts to those affected by this crisis.
  • Episcopal Community Services of San Francisco (ECS)
    • A non-profit organization in San Francisco, California.
    • If you live in the Bay Area & keep up with politics, you must be aware that San Francisco voted to confiscate homeless tents, but failed to pass funding to house them. When I read about this, I was upset about how inhumane it is. I gathered this information through this article. ECS combats against this inhumanity by providing food, shelter, job training, counseling, & supportive housing to the less fortunate. Together, we can all fight to end homelessness.
  • Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen
    • A non-profit organization in San Jose, California.
    • Hunger is a crucial issue in the United States. Over 42 million households were food insecure in 2015. As the Bay Area’s costs of living rise each year, low-income families find it that much more difficult to put food on the table. Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen serves over 400,000 hot meals per year to those in need.
  • Family Giving Tree’s Holiday Wish Drive
    • A non-profit organization in Milpitas, California.
    • Over 800,000 Bay Area residents live below the poverty line. One out of every four children lives in poverty. The Family Giving Tree is committed to servicing in-need individuals & families. Their Holiday Wish Drive fulfilled over 72,000 gift wishes in 2015. For children who may not otherwise receive a gift, the Family Giving Tree lets them know that people in the community care for them.
  • Operation Christmas Child
    • A non-profit project by Samaritan’s Purse.
    • Operation Christmas Child works to bring joy & hope to needy children around the world. Participate in Operation Christmas Child & make a child in need feel special by filling a shoebox with toys, school supplies, non-liquid hygiene items, & a personal note.
  • Campbell Community Toy Program
    • A non-profit program based in Campbell, California.
    • Campbell’s Community Toy Program is asking for donations such as new, unwrapped toys, games, books, balls, & school/art supplies.
  • Lung Force
    • A nationwide initiative led by the American Lung Association.
    • Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of both men & women in the United States. The Lung Force movement unites women to stand together against & spread awareness of lung cancer.
  • Autism Speaks
    • A non-profit nationwide organization.
    • Autism Speaks strives to promote solutions for the needs of individuals with autism & their families through advocacy, support, & advancing research. The organization also works to increase awareness & understanding of autism spectrum disorder.
If you know of any more non-profit organizations that would help out the community or you would like to bring awareness to, please feel free to leave suggestions with brief descriptions in the comment box below.
